Scholarships
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts and Alberta Culture offer scholarship programs designed to support the development of young Albertans in the film and video, literary, performing and visual arts.
The deadline for all four scholarship programs is March 1 annually.
Dr. MacEwan Literary Arts Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts to a young Albertan who demonstrates talent and potential along with clear educational or training goals in the literary arts. One scholarship is awarded annually to a young Albertan 25 years of age or younger. The value of the scholarship is $7,000.
The Dr. MacEwan Literary Arts Scholarship program was created by the Government of Alberta to provide a legacy for noted author and former Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Dr. Grant MacEwan. In addition to his extensive public service, Dr. MacEwan wrote more than fifty books on subjects that included nature, folklore, agriculture, politics, environment, literature, history and the people of Alberta.
Film and Video Arts Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts to a young Albertan who demonstrates talent and potential along with clear educational or training goals in the film and video arts. One scholarship is awarded annually to a young Albertan 25 years of age or younger. The value of the scholarship is $7,000.
Queen's Platinum Jubilee Scholarship for Performing Arts
This scholarship is awarded by Alberta Culture to a student who demonstrates talent and potential along with clear educational or training goals in the performing arts. One scholarship is awarded annually to a young Albertan 25 years of age or younger. The value of the scholarship is $7,000.

Fellowships
The Fellowship for Emerging Curators
This fellowship is designed to support the growth and development of curatorial talent by providing up to $10,000 by contracting up to two individuals or ensembles of individuals to develop an online exhibition of Albertan visual art. This initiative is intended to bring a new perspective to the artworks and artists featured in the AFA Art Collection.

Dr. Joane Cardinal-Schubert Fellowship for Indigenous Curators
In 2018, the AFA announced a one-time fellowship designed to support the growth and development of curatorial talent and enhance representation of Indigenous artists in the AFA collection. This fellowship will provide an opportunity for the recipient to research and work with Indigenous artists and potentially increase representation in the AFA collection through curatorial acquisition.
