Legacy Project CCLF- Art for Youth and Young Adult Artists

A conference is scheduled with resource tables and 4 well respected speakers who will touch on a variety of subjects to benefit any youth or young adult with a passion and drive to receive an education, and beneficial resources for your artistic journey in the world.

A one stop resource day for those thinking of an art career, those already embarked in an art education or those already on their art journey.

Come with your questions and ask those who have the experience. This conference is for you!

All due to a special grant provided by the County Clothesline to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

It was created to provide information, guidance, and resources to passionate youth/young adults, who are early career artists in Strathcona County.

It is a 3 year $30,000 grant which will provide opportunities for youth in Strathcona County to contribute to the county’s vibrant art community.

NIPAI's New Year Scholarship Contest

In partnership with ArtUniverse, NIPAI invites experienced theatre directors, assistant directors, actors, teachers, and choreographers to apply for a full-tuition scholarship to join one of its international programs or workshops.

This contest is designed for professionals looking to enhance their directing skills, broaden their network, and gain international experience.

A list of potential contest awards:

  • A partnership with NIPAI at the 22nd annual IUGTE conference "Performing Arts Between Tradition and Contemporaneity" in 2025.
    • This includes a full scholarship for a one speaker slot and the opportunity for a group of up to 10 people to participate without paying any fees for participation.
  • A tuition-free access for a 3-week intensive workshop in Hungary, culminating in a performance in a local theatre.
  • Three spots awarded for participation in one of NIPAI's international physical theatre workshops in Berlin in 2025

To keep the excitement alive, the specific prizes will remain undisclosed until the winners are announced.

How to Participate:

  1. Record a Short Video (1-3 minutes): Share your story as a theatre professional, your goals for developing directing skills, and how this scholarship could support your growth.
  2. Post and Tag NIPAI on Social Media: Upload the video to Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, tagging NIPAI’s official account.
  3. Email the Link: Send the link to info@nipai.org with the subject “NIPAI's New Year Scholarship Contest.”

Deadlines:

  • Submission deadline: December 15, 2024
  • Public voting on Instagram: December 16-22
  • Results announced: December 24

This scholarship offers a chance to participate in a learning environment with international peers and develop new skills to enhance your work in theatre and the performing arts.

ISEA INNOVATIONS 2022 Exhibition Call for Submissions

International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA) is hosting our 31st annual international, open, juried exhibition INNOVATIONS 2022 and Pushing Boundaries [REBOOT] 2022 Symposium in St. Albert, Alberta. Both events are wonderful opportunities for Canadian artists. 

INNOVATIONS 2022 will be held in-person Aug 18-Oct 1 at the Art Gallery of St. Albert, Alberta. Significant international exposure, and over US$14,000 in prizes, will be awarded. The Call for Submissions is open from Mar 1-31. 

Pushing Boundaries [REBOOT] 2022 is our 31st Annual Symposium, also in St. Albert, from Sep 1-6. An exciting line-up of 20 artists and art professionals will present over 30 workshops, demos, keynote speeches and discussions. The City of St. Albert and innovative art supply retailer The Paint Spot have also partnered with ISEA to present PBR 2022. The City will provide studio facilities for workshops at St. Albert Place and at AGSA, in the heart of downtown. The Paint Spot will provide registrants with discounted workshop kits, a significant discount on online orders to September 30th, and an onsite demo of new and unusual products.

From preschool to teenagers, we have a class that is suited for everyone!

Playful Drama

Who: Gr 1-2 (6-8yrs)
What: This course is a great introduction to the drama basics, and covers a variety of topics including: story-telling, character, sharing, movement, and theatre games. This is a wonderful way to help your child explore their imagination, learn new skills, and have fun! No experience is required!

Theatre Arts Exploration

Who: Gr 3-5 (8-11yrs)
What: This course is an all-inclusive exploration of the theatre arts. Students will be encouraged to discover a variety of dramatic techniques such as character creation, improvisation, movement, scene study, and more. Have a blast creating and performing an original final presentation for friends and family. No previous experience is required!

Acting Fun-dementals

Who: Gr 3-5 (8-11yrs)
What: This course is designed to get students feeling confident and comfortable being on stage while learning the fundamentals of acting and collaborating with others. Focus will be on exploring scripted work that students will either choose or be given, rehearse and workshop, and then perform in a final showcase. No previous experience is required!
When: Sunday January 12 – Sunday March 23, 2025 | 10:00am-12:00pm | @ The Pumphouse Theatre
How much: $300.00

There are no classes scheduled over the Family Day Long weekend. 

If you are registering more than 30 days prior to the first day of classes, receive $25.00 off the registration fee. 

If you are registering more than one immediate family member, receive $25.00 off the registration fee.

If you do not see a homeschool program that works for you, contact us about our Customizable Cohort Classroom option. We will work with you to create a program that meets your and your children’s needs.

All courses will adhere to all COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

All classes, with the exception of our customized programs, are 10 weeks in length.

Get Started with Letterpress printing and try different types of letterpress printing presses!

Looking for a quick and  beautiful way to do relief printing? Using printing presses will give you the speed and flexibility to take your art to the next level.

Compatible with Linocut printing, Polymer plates and Woodcuts, this class gives you the knowledge to lock these things up with lead type or on their own in their two user friendly presses!

No experience required.

What you’ll learn: ​​​​

  • Operation of Vandercook SP-15 Cylinder Press
  • Operation of Craftsman Superior and Kelsey Platen Press
  • Tools and Terminology for Letterpress
  • Basic Lock-Up Techniques
  • Printing Linocut and Type

About the instructor:

Michelle Wiebe is a Cochrane, Alberta-based artist focused primarily on painting, printmaking and letterpress. With a great fondness for all things print, you can find her fixing rusty presses or spending time printing at Alberta Printmakers. Michelle is a passionate instructor with a deep love for teaching, she makes it her goal that students leave her class with quality work and the confidence to continue building their new skills.

*Access to using the A/P studio equipment, including as a workshop participant, requires an A/P membership. Annual memberships are $30 and $10 for current students and current recipients of AISH. Membership fees can be applied directly to your workshop registration.

This workshop includes all project supplies, students are recommended to:

  • Bring image ideas, digital files or other creative prompts
  • Arrive no more than 10 minutes before class.
  • Park in the stalls located in front of A/P or use free street parking.
  • Bring a lunch and water bottle.
  • Bring a notebook/sketchbook and pen.
  • Bring reading glasses if you need them for fine work.
  • Wear suitable clothing for working with ink and/or a work apron.
  • Wear close toed shoes and avoid overly loose long sleeves.
  • Tie back long hair when operating machinery.
  • Personal PPE (if uncomfortable with Shared Studio PPE)

About the workshop:

Photolithography is a technique perfect for anyone interested in photography or drawing in printmaking. This course will cover a range of possibilities to transform photographs, digital creations, or drawn material into richly detailed lithographs. Participants will learn to process a photosensitive plate, exposing it to light to develop a printable image.
This course is suitable for all levels with no prior experience needed.

What you’ll learn: ​​​​

  • How to prepare a photographic file for lithography printing in photoshop
  • How to make drawings that will expose for photolithography plates
  • How to develop a photolithography plate
  • How to prepare paper for registration
  • How to print a photolithograph plate properly using the press

About the instructor:

Jamie-Lee Girodat completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at the University of Alberta. Her interest in genetic history, health, and ethics informs her practice in print media, drawing, and animation. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and has taught at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, and is currently teaching at Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary.

Hurry before it sells out!

Screen printing (or silkscreen) is a printmaking technique where layers of ink are pulled through a mesh screen to create a wonderfully detailed image, often with multiple layers of transparent ink interacting with one another. In this comprehensive workshop, students will gain an understanding of the processes involved in creating a screen print on paper within a professional printmaking studio and will leave with the knowledge and experience required to produce work independently.

This course is suitable for all levels with no prior experience needed.

What you’ll learn: ​​​​

  • Both analogue and digital methods of creating stencilsCoating a screen with emulsion
  • Burning the screen on the exposure unit
  • Mixing ink
  • Registering multiple layers
  • Pulling prints
  • Cleaning/ reclaiming screens 

About the instructor:

Originally from Montreal Quebec, Statz completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2000, and received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Print Media at Concordia University in 2008. Currently based in Calgary Alberta, Statz’s work has been exhibited across Canada, The United States, and Europe.

SongBurst Adult Summer Choir is a non-auditioned week-long choir for adults. Choir members learn a variety of music together in a casual and supportive setting. In addition to daily rehearsals, participants have the opportunity to sign up for workshops and one-on-one vocal coaching. At the end of the week, the choir performs a wrap-up concert for family, friends, and fans, in collaboration with the SongBurst KIDS Summer Choir Workshop.
